5 Questions To Ask Your Plumber Before You Hire Them

Hiring any tradie can be a daunting experience. When you’ve got literally hundreds of electricians and plumbers to choose from how can you be sure that the one you hire is going to do a great job?

Here are 5 questions to ask your plumber before you hire them so you can rest assured you’ve found the right person for the job.

5 Questions To Ask Your Plumber Before You Hire Them

Are You Licensed?

Using a licensed plumber is essential. Plumbers that do not have a license often won’t do the work properly or to any standard. If your plumber is not licensed, their work may not be in compliance with local plumbing codes. This could mean they don’t complete the job properly and you could be out of pocket and still not have fixed your plumbing problem. They’re also unlikely to be able to offer you any sort of warranty on their work and their work could even be unsafe.

Using a licensed plumber means that all work they carry out with be in accordance with the rules, regulations and standards set by their licensing body. Here in WA, the Plumbing Licensing Board regulates all plumbers and our plumbers in Duncraig are fully licensed.

Does Your Work Come With A Warranty?

Depending on the type of work carried out, most plumbing work should come with a warranty period. This can range from a few months to several years. Ask you plumber what warranty period their work will come with and if the key parts they are using have a warranty as well.

Do You Have Any References?

Getting references from a plumber is a great way to find out what their work ethic and quality is like. If you’ve already been recommended a plumber by a family member or friend, this can speak volumes about them. Any plumber asked for a reference should be happy to give you a few of their previous clients to speak to.

Are You Insured?

All plumbers need to have adequate insurance, just like any other kind of business. They should be able to confirm their insurance details if required so don’t be afraid to ask.

In a worst case scenario option, you want to know that should there be any damage to your property during their work, that you’ll be covered by their insurance.

Is This A Quote Or An Estimate?

This is crucial, especially on bigger projects. If you’re the kind of person who likes to know exactly what they’ll be paying when it comes to their home improvements and maintenance, knowing whether you’ve got a quote or an estimate is important.

There will be some cases in which your plumber may not be able to give a fixed quote though. If they think there may be unforeseen problems that could arise when they start work, they may want to estimate a cost rather than quote. However, they should be upfront about this and make you aware from the start that you could incur more costs if the job does not proceed as they would hope.
